After a series of very successful showings in various Cathedrals throughout the UK in 2009, a UNIQUE and unmissable exhibition opens in Liverpool on 1st February 2010 as Ludmilla Pawlowska brings ‘Icons in Transformation’, to Liverpool Cathedral.

This will be an unmissable new exhibition, because not only is the subject matter, modern Icons, well worth seeing, but also the fact the there will be no less than 180 pieces of contemporary art and sculpture in the building, so that you won’t be able to avoid them. Dramatic and intriguing, the exhibition also features 12 large suspended sculptural pieces together with some smaller works, which will be displayed throughout the cathedral.

Russian-born Ludmilla, who moved from Moscow to Sweden 15 years ago, has been deeply influenced by the colour and symbolism of the art of her home country: “Icons have a spiritual power,” she says, “a divine light and I try to capture that light in my own way. You see the eyes and you are hypnotised. You can’t escape them – it’s like God sees you.”

You are warmly invited to the launch of the exhibition by the Bishop of Liverpool, Rt Rev James Jones with guest speaker on the night Professor Phil Redmond CBE - Sunday 31st January 2010 at 7.30 pm.

More information on the exhibition will be coming out a little later, but any questions in the meantime to Canon Anthony Hawley at the Cathedral (0151 702 7204 or canon.hawley@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk ) or from Rachael Aron (0151 702 7217) Events Coordinator at the Cathedral. rachael.aron@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk
